Can you answer the question, “What is your passion?” Sadly enough, most people cannot. So lets look at it from a different perspective. What are some of the things that you love to do? Do you love cooking, writing, listening to music, teaching or maybe watching movies?
To help you answer the question I want you to take a moment and try to remember something you enjoyed doing as a child. Think back to a time when you were having fun with friends or maybe by yourself. Try to remember a time when you felt alive and playful. Do you remember that time? Now I would like you to try and remember how you felt on the inside while you were doing that thing that you loved. Can you remember that playful energy that moved through you? Can you remember the lightness and joyfulness that came through you that made you smile?
So when was the last time that you felt that way? When was the last time that you felt playful and alive and full of joy? Can’t remember? If not, I can assure you that you have disconnected from your passions and chances are your life isn’t as rewarding and fulfilling as it could be.
Would you like to get that energy back? Would you like to feel alive again? In order to do so, you must rediscover what you love to do and then make a commitment to doing it. No one can do this for you. You have to make a conscious choice that you are going to find what you love to do and then you simply have to do it.
If you can’t figure out what you love to do let me share three ways to know when you are doing what you love.
1. When you are doing what you love, you will do it without the thought of compensation. This does not mean that you can’t make money doing it. It simply means that you do it for the joy of it and you’re not concerned whether you will make money from it. I love the saying, “Do what you love and the money will follow.” If you truly love doing something you do it as an expression of your creativity and joy and that is compensation enough. Although I do believe that you can turn your passions into profits.
2. When you are doing what you love, time disappears. This is an amazing phenomenon that occurs when you do what you love. An example of this comes from my own experience. As a writer, I love to write. When I am writing, I can be at my computer for 8 hours and it feels like 10 minutes. Time literally disappears. So think about a time when you were doing something that you loved and you completely lost track of time. It’s happened to all of us. The key is to recognize that when you are doing what you love time disappears.
3. When you are doing what you love, you want to share it with others. When you truly love doing something, there is a part of you that will want to share it with others. The reason being is that you know that other people will benefit and experience the love you put into whatever you are doing. Sharing what you love to do is like sharing a part of yourself with others. It creates an emotional connection that opens your heart and allows others to feel what you felt while you were doing it.
So if you’re wondering what you love to do, simply use these three things as the litmus test to let you know that you are doing what you love. But most importantly commit to finding out what your passions are and be willing to do it and share it with others.
Good luck!
